Unusual Names
Recently, a couple in New Zealand were `10 from naming their baby son 4Real.Even though New Zealand has quite liberal rules about naming children, names beginning with 11 are not allowed. They decided to call him Superman instead.
In many countries around the world, unusual names for children are becoming more popular, especially since the 12 trend for celebrities to give their children wacky(funny) names. In Britain, you can call a child almost anything you like--- the only restrictions on 13 relate to offensive words such as swear words.
Some parents choose names which come from 14 .For example, there have been six boys named Gandalf after the character in the Lord of the Rings novels and films.Equally, names related to sport are fairly common – since 15 , 36 children have been called Arsenal after the football team.
Other parents like to make up names, or combine names to make their own unique version, a method demonstrated by Jordan, 16 , who recently invented the name Tiáamii for her daughter by combining the names Thea and Amy (the two grandmothers). She was quoted as saying that the accent and double letters were added to make the name “more exotic”.
Other countries have much 17 when it comes to naming children.Countries including Japan, Denmark, Spain, Germany and Argentina have an approved list of names from which parents must choose. In China, there are some rules about what you may call a child – no 18 or symbols are allowed. As a result a couple were recently banned from calling their baby @.
In Britain, some names which were previously 19 as old-fashioned have become more popular again, such as Maisie or Ella for a girl, or Elfie or Noah for a boy.
But the most popular names are not the wacky ones. The 20 are fairly traditional --- Jack, Charlie and Thomas for boys and Grace, Ruby and Jessica for girls.

Ⅲ 阅读 (共两节,满分40分)
第一节 阅读理解(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D项中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。
A
For most teenagers, swapping (交换) an old mobile phone with a friend for the latest album or movie ticket might be considered a good trade. But 17-year-old Steven Ortiz set his sights a little higher, and — after a series of swaps — is now driving himself to school in a Porsche. The youngster started exchanging items two years ago after a schoolmate gave him an unwanted phone.Through a series of online swaps, Steven worked his way up through newer phones, laptop computers, and street bikes before landing the prized Porsche.
Steven developed a love for online trading long before taking up the swaps that led to the Porsche. As a young teenager, he would buy his friends’ unwanted mobile phones for around £20, clean them up and sell them over the Internet for three times that amount.
His father, Esteban Ortiz, said Steven was also useful to have around when the family needed something like a new washing machine, as he would use his nose for a bargain to pick up somebody’s discarded appliance for next to nothing and fix it up cheaply.“I think this is teaching him something.I want him to go to college, and make something of his life.He is learning the value of things, responsibility and negotiation skills.”
Steven got his first car at 15, but he was too young to drive, so he traded for a golf cart before moving back into cars when he got his license a year ago.Steven said swapping the Bronco, worth about £10,000 at the time, for the Porsche was actually a trade down because the car was valued at £6,000.Another downside is the running costs. He must pay £100 every time the Porsche needs an oil change, and $1,000 for a routine service.
Steven, however, still has some way to go before matching the achievement of Canadian Kyle MacDonald, who became famous four years ago for turning a single red paperclip (别针) into a two-storey farmhouse through a series of trade.

Arthur Miller(1915-2005)is universally recognized as one of the greatest dramatists of the 20th century.Miller’s father had moved to the USA from Austria Hungary.Drawn like so many other by the“Great American Dream”, however, he experienced severe financial hardship when his family business was ruined in the Great Depression of the early l930s.
Milles’s most famous play, Death of a Salesman, is a powerful attack on the American system with its aggressive way of doing business and its insistence on money and social status as indicators of worth. In Willy Loman, the hero of the play, we see a man who has got into double with his worth.Willy is “burnt out” and in the cruel world of business there is no room for sentiment(情绪): if he can’t do the work, then he is no good to his employer, the Wagner Company, and he must go.Willy is painfully aware of this, and at a loss as to what to do with his lack of success. He refuses to face the fact that he has failed and kills himself in the end.
When it was first staged in 1949 ,the play was greeted with enthusiastic reviews, and it won the Tony Award for Best Play, the New York Drama Critics` Circle Award, and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. It was the first play to win all three of these major awards.

Are you unsure of the future? Do you feel as if you have put in a lot of effort, yet you still haven’t gotten anywhere? Are your relationships getting sour? If the answer to all these questions is yes, then you’re in for some serious reflection.
A negative perspective (观点) on life will definitely not do you any good.It will only stop you from achieving your goals, and will make you feel more and more unhappy. When you lack self-confidence, you tend to play safe and do just what is needed instead of exploring your full potentials(潜力).Your fears and self doubt are in fact the main villains that stop you from achieving success and keep you from living the life that you truly want.Understand this: the barrier(障碍) to your happiness is your own insecurity and cowardly manner.
How do you escape your self-bondage (自我束缚)? With the help of individuals who have gone through life’s tragedies without being affected, such as Rebecca Richmond, a widely admired life coach, you can take hold of your life and transform yourself from being afraid into a person with a positive outlook who is ready to get hold of the bright future that awaits you.The most important thing that you need to realize is that you have the power to change your life. You can reach unimaginable heights if you only believe in your ability to do so.See the unlimited opportunities that are set before you.Take challenges as lessons that make you strong and mature.
Do not let your painful past dictate the person that you would become.Open your eyes and see the beautiful person that you are.You deserve to live a better life — one that is full of love, peace of mind, and prosperity.

Have you been asked for money by some disabled beggars while you’re enjoying shopping? Do you have any pity on them who are so poor and lonely or do you just feel afraid of their terrible shapes? For whatever reasons, the number of disabled beggars bumming along the street has increased rapidly.
Why are there so many disabled people begging in the street? The reasons are so various that we don’t need to understand. But at least, we know that as one of the most special groups, disabled people’s living conditions—not only their material conditions, but their mental world, really need improvement. So we should help them in some ways.
The ways of treating people with disabilities is an important standard in measuring how civilized a country is.People should have their correct attitude in choosing the way to get along with the disabled.
In short, if all of us offer our love and show warmth to them heart and soul, they can also live as rich and full a life as we do.Our world is bound to become more beautiful and harmonious.
