(1)我们是餐厅里唯一带着小孩吃饭的家庭。我让埃里克坐在一张高椅上。我注意到餐厅里的每一个人都安静地吃着，偶尔交谈，也是发出很轻的声音。
(2)突然，埃里克大声地尖叫起来：“看，那边!”他那胖乎乎的小手激动地拍打着椅子的扶手，眼睛瞪得大大的。
（3)我环视四周，发现了埃里克兴奋的来源。那是一个老人，穿着一件沾满油污并且已经破烂不堪的外套，裤子又宽又大，只剩下了半截，脚上的鞋也破了，脚趾露出了鞋外。由于离他太远而没有闻到他身上的臭味，但我敢肯定他自己一定能闻到。
